The Gospel

I need to tell you about the most important truth that you have to know at this very moment.

Firstly: You are a sinner. You have sinned. Just like me, and all human beings who live and had lived on earth.

Sin started to enter humanity through Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:13). And we who are the first man, Adam’s, descendants are depraved, inheriting his sinful nature. Aside from that, we sin voluntarily.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin,and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—

To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.

(Romans 5:12-14, ESV)

What is sin?

Sin is a rebellion against God. It is any thought in mind, a word uttered, or action committed that does not align with His statutes and commandments. And all of us are guilty. Each of us has sinned even in the tiniest ways, in our thoughts, words, and actions whether we acknowledge them as sins or not. It says in Romans 3:23,

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Sin has a consequence: death. Our mortal bodies are subject to die as soon as we were born. Everyone will vanish from the physical realm and will go back to dust, but it doesn’t end there. Our souls are bound to eternal punishment in the lake of fire due to our iniquities (Rev. 21:8, Heb. 10:27). Because sin is an abomination to God, we deserve His wrath.

Many people have heard this truth. Perhaps, you’ve heard about this countless times before. And you didn’t want hell, or you didn’t want to accept that you are a sinner. You tried to be “good enough.” You try your hardest to live without treading on someone’s toes. You’ve prayed and called on to every name you could think. You’ve offered worship to all the gods whom different religions pointed you to. You did every good deed you could do. You fed the poor, donated to charities, volunteered to a cause, etc.

Good works cannot save you from eternal punishment.

I hate to break it to you, but none of us are good, and no works of our hands are mighty or righteous enough to save us from the terrible penalty for our sins. We cannot even save us from ourselves, from our total depravity.

as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one

(Romans 3:10, ESV)

What then is our hope?

This is the Good News: God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to bring hope to mankind and salvation to those who put their faith in Him!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

(John 3:16, ESV)

The Lord, Jesus Christ, came into the world in the form of flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). He is the incarnate God–FULLY God and FULLY man. Because the absolution for our sins requires death, Jesus came to give His life as a ransom for many (Matt. 20:28). He suffered, was crucified, and died the death we deserve, so that the sins of those who believe will be washed away by His blood that shed on the cross.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(Romans 6:23, ESV)

He rose again on the third day defeating death itself. And this is the victory that we have through Jesus, the mighty Savior, and Redeemer. Though He never sinned, God deemed Him as the perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of our transgressions to bring reconciliation with Him. “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12, ESV)

Many will command you to do things (perhaps, good and acceptable in people’s sight), to go to this or that way, not knowing their path will lead you to destruction. But take heed to this: Jesus is the ONLY way, truth, and life. No one comes to the Father but by Him alone (John 14:6).

How can we obtain the free gift of salvation?

Repent and turn back to God so that our sins may be wiped away (Acts 3:19). As for repentance, it is a renewing of your mind that leads to changes in actions, specifically, leaving your sins behind and living a life of allegiance to God. Confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead (Rom. 10:9-10), and put your faith in Him alone.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(1 John 1:9, ESV)

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

(John 5:24, ESV)

By our Heavenly Father’s grace, may your heart be drawn to seek Him and receive this precious gift of eternal salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ–walking not as slaves to sin but as God’s dearly loved child, living a life of repentance and obedience to Him lead by the Holy Spirit!

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

(John 1:12, ESV)

Soli Deo gloria.
